Perioperative Support Worker

Job summary

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Perioperative Support Worker to join our friendly and dynamic team within the elective operating theatres. The post holder will provide essential support to the multidisciplinary team, contributing to the delivery of safe, effective and high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative pathway.

The role involves working across a range of surgical specialties including Urology, Orthopaedics and Ophthalmology, with occasional support to General Surgery. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals who are keen to develop skills and experience within the perioperative environment.

Main duties of the job

Please refer to the Job Description for full details. Key duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting patients within the anaesthetic room, providing reassurance, maintaining dignity and comfort, and assisting the registered practitioner as required
  • Undertaking the circulating role in theatre, supporting the multidisciplinary team during operative procedures
  • Assisting with the preparation and set-up of operating theatres, including equipment and consumables, ensuring theatres are ready for subsequent cases
  • Contributing to the safe transfer and positioning of patients in accordance with moving and handling policies
  • Undertaking and recording patient observations within agreed protocols, escalating concerns appropriately
  • Maintaining a safe, clean and well-organised theatre environment in line with infection prevention and control standards
  • Supporting junior staff and learners as appropriate and working under the supervision of registered practitioners
  • Contributing to the smooth running of the theatre list and effective use of resources
