Job summary

The post holder will be responsible for data collection, validation and submission of quality data for participation in the Case Mix Programme, Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre, London (ICNARC) (national comparative audit programme).

The Data Clerk officer is a vital function within the Critical Care Department and facilitates the robust provision and delivery of quality care and improved patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Ensure the provision of quality and robust clinical audit/data collection in line with Trust policies and procedures.

2. Maintain and organises data systems and audit trails for the Critical Care department to ensure accurate recording or patient pathway data relevant to quality data and accuracy of patient hospital episodes. Accurate recording of all computerised based patient records, updating and amending information immediately.

3. Analyse patient records to code and collate complex clinical data, including interpretation and assessment of information for configuration to specialized databases, working with the guidelines governing critical care data collection.

4. Submission and collection of robust and accurate data for participation in national and local research programmes.

5. The post holder will plan and manage own time, working autonomously to ensure the timely and accurate processing of critical care data together with compliance of both regular and unscheduled deadlines.

6. Timely collection, validation and submission of CCMDS data for payment by results using established reporting methods to the Information Performance Team.

7. Timely collection and submission of quartely ICNARC case mix programme data.

8. Ensure effective communication with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the collection of quality and accurate data.

9. Liaison with professional teams to promote efficient and accurate data collection and ensure up to date data awareness of changes and developments.

10. Liaise with ICNARC to establish good relationships, promote efficient and accurate data production and ensure up to date awareness of key developments within relevant areas.

11. Work as an effective team member with colleagues and have the ability to communicate with staff of all grades and disciplines.

12. The post holder will need to be able to work in conjunction with clinical teams and on their own initiative.

13. Maintain confidentiality at all times with regard to patient information and be aware of the Trust guideline governing confidentiality.

14. In conjunction with your line manager ensure that you maintain necessary skills and attend any relevant training courses to fulfil your role and keep up with personal development in line with any developments in the service.
