Job summary

An exciting opportunity for a Band 7 Stoma Care Clinical Nurse Specialist has arisen at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The position is for 30 hours per week over 4 days with requirement to work flexibly over Monday - Friday period to ensure consistent provision of stoma care service.

We are seeking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic individual with recent and relevant experience in stoma care along with at least 3 years colorectal and surgical experience.

You will be required to work independently and therefore need to be confident in your role as a lone worker as well as being able to interact within a wider multidisciplinary team.

The post holder will be an integral part of the colorectal team and will be required to assess, plan, evaluate and deliver all relevant aspects of patient focused care in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner. They will work closely with the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to the clinical governance process and will need to have excellent communication and organisational skills.

The post offers ideal opportunities for the successful applicant to enhance and expand their experience in stoma care and to make a significant difference to the experience of the patient undergoing such life changing surgery. The pathway involves pre and post operative counselling, support and education to patients and their families/carers.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will -

Directly deliver Stoma care to patients based on current evidence across a variety of settings, e.g. home, OPD and ward in order to provide a flexible service that is responsive to the needs of the client group incorporating patient and family/carers.

Provide support and specialist nursing advice across the Trust to clinical colleagues in complex cases

Support the delivery of high quality stoma care to patients within their clinical field by improving the knowledge and skills of first-line staff through education (both Trust wide and on an individual basis).

Follow the patient's journey into the community, in Nurse led clinics undertaking regular reviews of patient products to ensure this is correct for the patient.
