Alcohol Specialist Nurse

A great opportunity has arisen to work at the DPOW on an 8 months fixed term contract as an Alcohol Liaison Nurse from 1st August 2025 -31st March 2026

Candidate must be available to start on 1st August 2025

Interviews are set for 10th/11th June 2025

You will need to be a Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) or a Registered General Nurse (RGN), with a current NMC registration

The main purpose of this role is to ensure effective Trust-wide identification of patients with alcohol use disorder, provide face to face patient interactions that nurture the patient partnership and develop a shared person-centered goal, support optimal management during inpatient admissions, and facilitate timely and appropriate discharge into the care of community services as appropriate.

In this key role you will make a difference by providing person-centered care, prompt support, advice, and education to the Emergency Department and the wards to build knowledge and skills of staff within these settings in the care and treatment of patients with alcohol related presentations and admissions.

You will work closely with the Emergency Department, working with patients at the front door to provide early intervention, and those who are inpatients.

The post holder will work closely with the existing Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialists within NLAG, Humberside Alcohol Care team Operational Delivery Network. The induction training will include spending time in Hull with Alcohol Service delivery Team .

Provide a specialist service across the Trust for patients referred with a range of complex needs, including initial assessment of patients' needs, evaluation of care and treatment as appropriate and informed by evidenced based practice. Having ongoing responsibility for managing your own caseload.

Establish and maintain excellent links between ED, inpatient, outpatient, and community services.

To maintain / improve / update robust alcohol withdrawal protocols for use within both inpatient and outpatient settings, working closely with ED.

Offer brief interventions to individuals with identified alcohol related issues. This will take place within the DPOW site . You will be offering advice, education, brief therapy and signposting to treatment services.

Responsible for assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, with the multidisciplinary team within the field of alcohol and drug misuse.

Provide expert advice and assistance to health professionals on the management of alcohol and drug related health problems, especially withdrawal.

Provide help advice and support to patients with significant alcohol and drug related health problems and those at risk from alcohol and drug withdrawal.
