This is a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic and enthusiastic Physiotherapist who is keen to progress within the area of Paediatric Physiotherapy. We a looking for an enthusiastic person with some experience in working with paediatrics to further develop their skills as a band 6. However, if the successful applicant has no or limited paediatric experience we would look to offer this as a band 5-6 Development post.
Experience working with children with disabilities or experience with a wider range of neurological conditions would be desirable. We are able to offer training and support and a range of CPD opportunities. Please do contact us to discuss further if you have been working with adults and are interested in developing paediatric competencies but don't yet have all the essential criteria identified.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a high standard physiotherapy service undertaking all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To be responsible for the assessment and therapeutic management of children with a range of Physiotherapy needs across both sites. To take responsibility for your own caseload of children 0-19 years including, muscular skeletal, neurological, orthopaedic and rheumatology within a variety of settings.
- Perform advanced physiotherapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical conditions. Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide, develop and deliver an individualized treatment programmes and care.
- Responsible for managing own caseload and a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision.
- Supervise, educate and assess physiotherapy students, assistants and other less experienced registered staff and provide specialized advice to other health care professionals in the specific clinical area.
- Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to development of service protocols.
- The applicant will need to have access to transport and the ability to safely transport yourself and equipment (i.e standers) around the required geographical area during the course of their working day."

The post holder will have the opportunity to work in a range of North Lincolnshire community settings including clinics, mainstream and special schools and the patients home. You will be supporting children aged 0-19 with a range of presentations such as Neurological, Neuromuscular and Congenital conditions. You will be involved in supporting children with developmental delays to reach their full potential. You will join a small established team of Physiotherapists working in an integrated service with Childrens Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapy and Dietetics. The small nature of our teams helps to provide a close and supportive working network. The team works cross site, with one base at Scunthorpe District Hospital and another at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby. We are a fun, child focused team with a passion for making a difference in children and young peoples lives.
CPD is well supported and there will be the opportunity to undertake further post graduate training to develop skills within Paediatrics as well as regular in house supervision and training, to develop your skills in your areas of interest. We will provide a robust and flexible training package to work around the needs of the individual applicant.
Clinical Duties
- Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients including those with diverse or complex presentations or multiple pathologies; use advanced clinical reasoning skills and a range of assessment techniques including manual assessment to provide an accurate diagnosis.
- Formulate and deliver an individual treatment programme based on this assessment and on knowledge of evidence based practice and treatment options using specialised clinical assessment, reasoning skills and knowledge of treatment skills eg. therapy techniques, patient education, exercise and other alternative options including aids.
- Assess and manage clinical risk within own and delegated patient caseload.
- Formulate accurate prognoses, recommend optimum intervention and develop comprehensive timely discharge plans using evidence based outcome measures.
- Assess patient understanding of treatment proposals; gain valid informed consent and work within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent to treatment.
- Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with patients to facilitate and progress rehabilitation and treatment programmes, including with patients who may be dysphasic, depressed, deaf, blind or unable to communicate.
- Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes as required.
- Represent the physiotherapy service and/or individual patients at MDT meetings to ensure the delivery of a coordinated multidisciplinary service and to integrate physiotherapy treatment into the overall treatment programme. This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and involvement in discharge planning.
