Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Directorate of Estates and Facilities as an Accommodation Support Assistant. The post involves cleaning rooms, flats and common areas within our key worker accommodation at Scunthorpe Accommodation on the Scunthorpe Hospital site. The accommodation provides comfortable accommodation for NHS Employees, Medical Students, Locum staff and Agency workers. Duration of stay can vary from one night to long-term lets.

As an Accommodation Support Assistant, we are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a positive "can do" attitude to work and can demonstrate the qualities required of a caring professional working within the NHS. We are looking for excellent customer service, positive, and dependable people to join our team in the role of an Accommodation Support Assistant.

Main duties of the job

Our Accommodation Support Assistants are an integral part of the operations, working within our dedicated Key Worker Accommodation Blocks at Scunthorpe Hospital providing all cleaning responsibilities. A typical day for an Accommodation Support Assistant would include cleaning of the communal areas/kitchens, crockery, cutlery and equipment, ensuring linen is available for vacated rooms, monitoring and maintaining stock levels in accordance with daily requirements, weekly room/flat cleans and preparing rooms for the next tenant, conduct room checks reporting any damage or equipment failures, and ensuring all waste streams are taken and disposed of in the appropriate areas, so being a keen team player is key for this role.

Targeted training and support will be provided to the successful candidate. In addition, there may be further opportunities for learning via courses facilitated by the Trust. We want to learn from your application how you can meet the minimum of the essential criteria in our person specification, and perhaps even exceed this minimum standard. Our environment can be often placed under operational challenge particularly during Doctor and Junior Doctors Intake which requires some flexibility, team working and a joined working approach to ensure our Tenants receive the best service possible, so we would also be interested in understanding how you might be able to help us deliver services in such an environment.

  • To carry out weekly cleans to rooms/flats allocated.
  • Carry out own activities in accordance with legislation, regulations, NHS guidance and Trust Policy ensuring that Cleaning Standards are adhered to.
  • Carrying out spot cleaning (e.g. floors, toilets) as required ensuring spillages etc. are deal with swiftly and efficiently.
  • Ensure that all chemicals are used and stored correctly in accordance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) procedures.
  • Through efficient work procedures ensure minimum disruption within the work area.
  • Cleaning of the communal areas/kitchens, crockery, cutlery and equipment.
  • Ensure linen is available for vacated rooms. Ensuring stock levels are maintained in accordance with daily requirements.
  • Follow room make up procedure and ensure checklists are completed.
  • Ensure all waste streams are taken to the appropriate areas.
  • Participate in being part of the eyes and ears of the department and report all defects/repairs to the Accommodation Team Leader. Verbally feedback to Accommodation Team Leader any feedback/comments from Residents positive or negative.
  • Ensure the routine flushing of little used outlets (LUO) in Line with the Trust Management of Legionella and associated Policies.
