Excellent Band 6 Deputy Ward manager Opportunity for an Aspiring Leader

Ward 29 is a 25 bedded general surgical ward catering for variety of surgical specialties such as urology, colorectal and orthopaedics-based Scunthorpe General Hospital. With a very well-established Ward manager and experienced team, the ward is working towards achieving a gold standard level of care for patients especially having recently achieved a High End good on their quality accreditation for the hospital called -The 15 Steps ward Quality accreditation.

As a Deputy on the ward, you would be part of the leadership team working with patients and MDT to achieve this goal.

You will be supported and encouraged to undertake quality improvement projects and other work that impacts on maintaining high standard of care, which enhances the patient and c staff experiences of inpatient ward.

You will be expected to co-ordinate the care on the ward and support the Ward Manager and matron to ensure safe, effective running of the department daily.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • RN currently working in similar ward with acute surgical/medical skills
  • RN with over 3years Experience and with a Mentorship Qualification

Main duties of the job

You will ensure high quality, evidence-based care is offered to patients and in collaboration with the ward manager, identify the common issues which affect the quality of care, devising clear action plans to address any short comings. In collaboration with the Ward Manager, ensure that the patient has a satisfactory experience by evaluating patient process and the pathway of care. Support the ward manager in ensuring clinical audit takes place in line with the trusts requirement to improve practice. Being a point of contact for patients, visitors, relatives and staff acting as a resource for problems, needs and able to clearly present the patients view to others. Support the Ward Manager in ensuring the development and on-going management of work rosters that provide appropriate safe staff cover.

The Deputy Ward Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse is vital in supporting with the management of the clinical area including assessment of care needs the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.

They will facilitate innovative and evidence based nursing/midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team and act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential.
