Job summary

The Obstetric & Gynaecology department at North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust is looking to appoint a full time Consultant with a specialist interest in Urogynaecology to join our friendly and dynamic team. Our Obstetric and Gynaecology service is offered across two main hospital sites, Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Grimsby and Scunthorpe General Hospital. This post will be predominantly based at Scunthorpe General Hospital which also covers antenatal clinics, gynaecology clinics in Goole Hospital 30 miles to the west.

This post would suit a good team player who is dedicated to delivering high quality patient care. The opportunity exists to work in a non-hierarchical setting and offer a wide range of Obstetrics & Gynaecology procedures.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to be appointed as Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School (HYMS). This honorary appointment is in recognition of contribution to teaching and research and holders of honorary titles may request access to HYMS and University premises and facilities, systems, and library services.

Main duties of the job

The post would suit a good team player dedicated to high quality patient care. The opportunity exists to work in a non-hierarchical setting and offer a wide range of Obstetrics & Gynaecology procedures in this busy DGH

The appointee must be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a License to Practice.

The Trust provides Community Services in North Lincolnshire. There are 5 Locality teams comprising District Nurses, Therapists, Social Workers and support staff who work with GPs, mental health, voluntary services and the hospital to provide care for adults in the community.

The appointee will:

  • Lead on the provision of our urogynaecology service
  • Undertake duties associated with Labour ward.
  • Provide a general gynaecology and obstetrics service comprising outpatient clinics, labour ward and
  • Provide out reach clinics in Goole district hospital when required as per departmental needs

Job description

Job responsibilities

This is an 10.199 PA post, with the potential for additional/optional PA, for additional responsibilities to fit service needs.

Split of PA is as follows:

  • 8.448 PAs for Direct Clinical Activity
  • 1.502 PAs for Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) Revalidation, CPD, audit training, clinical governance, risk management, appraisal etc
  • 0.249 for the education supervision.
  • Regular job planning meetings will be undertaken with the post holder to ensure that the appointee is remunerated for any additional activities undertaken and that the job plan accurately reflects the overall workload undertaken by the post holder.

The supporting professional activities (SPAs) allocation within the provisional job plan is an illustrative guide and will be finalised following individual agreement with successful candidates. The initial SPA of 1.5 is sufficient for revalidation purposes and attendance at audit and clinical governance meetings and supervising the teaching of medical students. Further discussion on supporting professional activities will depend on the Trust's requirements and the individual's particular expertise. Obviously, study leave and professional leave are taken over and above the SPA allocation. In line with the terms and conditions, the final job plan is subject to the agreement of the Trust through the Clinical Leader and the appointee.

In addition, the appointee will provide Delivery Suite sessions when on call, on a 1 in 7 basis weekdays and 1 in 6 weekend on calls.

Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital Grimsby are both well-equipped district general hospitals with A&E, Maternity and Obstetrics, Acute Medicine and Acute Surgery (including Orthopaedics) and Adult and Neonatal Intensive care on both sites. There are well equipped support facilities including a digital radiology PACS system throughout the Trust including MRI and CT at both sites. Isotope studies are performed at Grimsby including Hologic DEXA scanner. Basic EMG and nerve conduction studies are done within the Trust as are lung function studies, cardiac catheterisation and pacemaker implants.

Goole District Hospital is a smaller hospital with outpatient facilities, midwife lead maternity unit, a minor injuries unit and in-patient wards for non-acute medicine. It is also a site which performs day case and in-patient surgical procedures for orthopaedic, general surgery, gynaecology and ophthalmology for a large geographic area. The hospital has X-ray facilities linked to the Trust PACS system. There is an Acquired Brain Injury Unit which is run by the ABI charity.
