Job summary

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

The Breast Medical Secretary/Waiting List Officer plays a pivotal role in supporting the efficient operation of the Breast Services Department. This post combines administrative expertise with patient-focused coordination to ensure timely and effective care delivery. The postholder will be responsible for providing high-quality secretarial support to the breast care clinical team, while also managing and maintaining accurate waiting lists in line with national and local targets.

Main duties of the job

Administrative Support: Typing clinical correspondence, managing theatre sessions, arranging appointments, and maintaining accurate patient records using hospital systems.

Waiting List Management: Coordinating and monitoring elective and urgent referrals, ensuring patients are scheduled appropriately in accordance with clinical urgency referral-to-treatment (RTT) & cancer targets.

Patient Liaison: Acting as a key point of contact for patients, providing information, reassurance, and timely updates regarding appointments, procedures, and care pathways.

Data Management & Reporting: Maintaining accurate data for audit and performance monitoring, and assisting in the preparation of reports and returns as required.

Support to Clinical Staff: Act as a first point of contact for consultants and specialist nurses, managing queries, coordinating schedules, and facilitating communication across departments.

Continuous Improvement: Participate in service development initiatives, suggesting and implementing improvements to administrative processes and patient pathways.
