Horizon Midwife (Substance misuse)

Job summary

The midwife will be responsible for providing antenatal and postnatal care to an allocated caseload of women and birthing people with substance and alcohol concerns.

Main duties of the job

  • The midwife will be responsible for providing antenatal and postnatal care to an allocated caseload of women and birthing people with substance and alcohol concerns.
  • Provide continuity of carer to an allocated caseload of women with drug and alcohol concerns which may also include intrapartum care
  • Have sufficient rotational midwifery experience
  • Have community midwifery experience, which is essential
  • Assess, interpret and plan management for pregnant women and birthing people who have drug and alcohol concerns
  • Work collaboratively with the named Consultant and multidisciplinary team to provide continuity to the woman and birthing people during the antenatal period
  • Be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, use the current Trust IT systems and have the confidence to be able to manage difficult and challenging behaviours on a daily basis
  • Have sound knowledge of the safeguarding agenda
  • Have extensive knowledge of substance misuse and related co morbidities
  • Be expected to participate in aspects of training
  • Be proactive in the promotion of an environment receptive to change
  • Participate in audit.
