Job summary
This is a unique opportunity to apply for the post of the Advanced Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Fellow at the University Hospital of North Midlands. In conjunction with consultant colleagues the post holder will provide a comprehensive complex and non-complex hand and wrist service to UHNM.
The successful applicant should demonstrate that they have had dedicated training in hand and wrist surgery and are able to perform at senior level in both complex and non-complex hand and wrist surgery, elective and trauma.
The North Midlands Hand Centre provides an exceptional setting for a hand and wrist fellowship, combining high surgical volume with a uniquely broad case mix. As a regional tertiary referral unit, fellows will be exposed not only to routine trauma and elective hand surgery but also to complex wrist arthroplasty, arthroscopy, peripheral nerve reconstruction, and advanced tendon and ligament procedures. The centre prides itself on a multidisciplinary approach, working closely with specialist hand therapists and radiologists, giving fellows comprehensive insight into the full patient pathway. With a strong academic ethos, there are ample opportunities for research, audit, and teaching, supported by faculty actively engaged in innovation and publication. The fellowship's balance of clinical intensity, subspecialty breadth, and a supportive training culture makes it an ideal platform for developing the skills and confidence required for a modern consultant hand surgeon.

- To manage and be responsible for continuing care of patients with hand and wrist problems in partnership with current hand and wrist surgeons.
- Be able to provide second opinion for concerned patients at the request of consultant colleagues.
- To lead ward management by active participation and example.
- To liaise with other surgeons in respect of annual leave and study leave to ensure continued provision of service delivery.
- The successful applicant will be expected to work across both our sites at Royal Stoke and County Hospital.
