Job summary

University Hospitals of North Midlands is currently unable to provide sponsorship this role. The cardiothoracic surgical team at the Royal Stoke provide coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve surgery, aortic surgery, and lung surgery. We also receive patients with chest trauma as part of the regional Trauma Centre status of UHNM.Cardiothoracic Critical Care is a 16 bedded department of level 2 and level 3 facilities providing invasive and non-invasive treatment to patients requiring emergency and elective cardiothoracic surgical care. It is a busy, fast-paced environment with a daily turnover of patients. We are looking to recruit a dedicated and enthusiastic support worker to join our team and advance their skills as a Band 3.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Clinical Support Worker you will be working under the supervision of a registered nurse. Along with the UHNM Band 3-specific skills, you will be performing tasks such as setting up ventilators, removing chest drains, processing blood gas samples, liaising with blood bank, and assisting with patient admissions from theatre and transfers to the ward.

As part of our commitment to staff development we have created Band 3 competencies specific to Cardiothoracic Critical Care and these are currently under review for approval.

  • Maths and English current grade 4/ C or above or Level 2 Functional Skills equivalent (ECCTIS statement required for overseas qualifications).
  • Hold a full Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3 Award in Health and Social Care (NVQ must be accredited by a regulated awarding body).
