About us

UHNM has a robust diagnostic imaging training program, as part of the West Midlands Deanery. There are around 42 postgraduate doctors in training (PGiT), as well as at least one Foundation doctor. The on-call services are well supported by the PGDiT 24/7. To support training there is the award-winning West Midlands Imaging Academy based between both sites, offering a range of state-of-the-art simulators for US and interventional procedures together with rooms of dedicated workstation linked with the latest audiovisual equipment. The Imaging Academy has recently launched the first dedicated training programme for mechanical thrombectomy in England. Keele University Medical School has a radiology curriculum, with medical students rotating through the department.

The Imaging Service is based on a strong ethos of Quality Assurance, Audit, Evidence and Research. UHNM is a research active organisation with many active oncology trials, many of which require radiology support. The Imaging Department is also building up a portfolio of imaging-based research aligning to the Trust priority to become a major clinical research centre.

At UHNM we are adopting a continuous improvement methodology as the way we work operationally. It is underpinned by our Trust Values. All staff will be trained to work in this way and by using it we can all make small changes every day to improve our services so we can provide 'the best' joined up care for all
