Trainee Fire Safety Advisor

Job summary

This is a development post for a trainee B5 fire safety advisor progressing to a B6 upon successful completion of a structured development programme.

Main duties of the job

To work on behalf of the Trust to deliver an environment that is safe with a minimum fire risk so that the highest standards of clinical care can be made available to patients.

The Trainee Fire Safety Adviser will provide a comprehensive, inclusive and professional fire management service for the Trust. Provide expert advice on all fire related matters. To carry out inspections and risk assessments on all Trust properties.

To train staff of all disciplines and levels on fire related matters (Core training)

All within a national and NHS fire prevention framework and according to training standards, advice and guidance provided by the Home Office and the NHS.

Job responsibilities

  • To advise management (at all levels, including senior management teams) of their initial and continuing responsibilities in respect of their designated premises requiring risk assessments under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and maintaining the necessary provisions following inspection on behalf of management.
  • To manage and supervise adequate provision, siting and effective maintenance of all first aid fire-fighting equipment, fire safety signs and fire notices.
  • To be the lead and have overall responsibility for the maintenance of accurate records of fires and unwanted fire signals. This includes inputting the records into a National database for Healthcare premises.
  • Responsible for the compilation of comprehensive end of year statistics for use in Annual Trust Reports.
  • Ensures that fire exits, fire escapes and associated exit routes are regularly maintained and remain free from obstruction. This includes spot check inspections.
  • Ensures that fire alarms and first aid fire fighting equipment are regularly maintained and tested.
  • Responsible for responding to all complaints relating to fire safety matters including equipment, signage, procedures and policies.
  • Plan and deliver fire awareness presentations to all staff in order to create and promote a pro fire preventative culture.
  • To devise and deliver a programme of fire safety training for all Trust staff and contractors.
