Job summary

We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a dynamic Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly team at the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM).

The post holder will have clinical responsibilities within the Speech and Language Therapy team across all inpatient wards at the Royal Stoke, the Acute Stroke Unit and the Integrated Community Stroke Rehabilitation Service in East Cheshire. They will manage a varied caseload of patients with communication difficulties and non-complex dysphagia arising from a wide range of aetiologies in an inpatient and domiciliary setting. The role provides the opportunity to work collaboratively with wider teams across a range ofdisciplines on the acute wards and in the community. The post holder needs to be able to travel independently. Our combined goal is to provide an excellent standard of care across all pathways, with patient welfare being at the heart of everything we do.

Main duties of the job

Be competent to fulfil the key responsibilities of the role.

To have professional and clinical knowledge of acquired communication disorders and dysphagia.

To carry out independent assessment and management of speech and language disorders, with the implementation and evaluation of care/support packages.

T To develop theoretical and clinical skills in dysphagia.

To demonstrate initiative and autonomy, whilst being creative in finding solutions to problems.

To carry out supervisory responsibilities as required.

To contribute to service development as part of the wider SLT team

To always demonstrate the Trust values of: Together, Excellent and Kind
