Job summary

The post holder will be the Trust's overarching expert in all matters relating to Safeguarding Children, young people and Adults. This is inclusive of matters relating to mental health/Dementia Learning Disabilities and Autism.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide consultation, managerial and professional leadership and is responsible and accountable for the delivery of a high quality, patient centred service across the Safeguarding Agenda that meets the needs of the patients and staff. They will establish and foster an effective working relationship within Corporate Nursing and Care Groups and lead on improvements in safeguarding related care, service delivery and the achievement of organisational priorities; and lead on partnership working to improve service and care for all patients.

The post holder will possess an up to date and contemporary understanding of the needs of patients, carers and staff within the varying levels of the organisation. The post holder will have a corporate role with responsibility for ensuring that the Trust meets the standards, legislation, guidance and regulations and advise the Trust on Safeguarding and legislative frameworks.

The post holder will be the nominated Prevent Lead for the organisation and act as Board member to represent the Trust on the Local Safeguarding Children and adults Boards.

The post holder will directly line manage the, Lead Nurse for Mental Health and Learning Disabilities.

  • Post Graduation Safeguarding Qualification
  • Registered Nurse - Level 1
  • Current registration with the NMC

Desirable

  • Master's degree or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level
  • Post-graduate qualification within a leadership programme/study or evidence of practical application of expertise at this level

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential

  • Significant evidence of experience of Safeguarding within a senior role in a complex healthcare organisation
  • Evidence of extensive expert professional knowledge in safeguarding.

Personal Qualities

Essential

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and influence at senior level
  • Effective communicator to provide, receive and assimilate highly complex and sensitive and contentious information

Special Knowledge

Essential

  • Detailed and expert knowledge and understanding of the safeguarding issues, legislation and practice.
  • Detailed knowledge of NHS agenda, with explicit understanding of current issues in nursing and midwifery. Extensive understanding of current issues and social care, particularly those that relate to acute hospital care.
