An exciting opportunity has become available to join the Clinical Pharmacy team at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) to lead the service to UHNM's Elective Orthopaedic Speciality and further develop the peri-operative optimisation of medicines for these patients, including undertaking pre-admission clinics.

To be considered you will be an experienced clinical pharmacist able to demonstrate an ability to deliver high-quality care for patients.

Working closely with clinicians, nursing staff, and the directorate management team, you will lead the clinical pharmacy service to the Elective Orthopaedic speciality.

You will be expected to provide a high-quality clinical service and provide clinical, financial, and risk management support.

Main duties of the job

Work across our Royal Stoke and County Hospital sites to deliver a high-quality focussed clinical pharmacy service to the Elective Orthopaedic speciality. This will include proactive engagement with clinicians and the wider MDT; delivery of medicines optimisation, governance and safety initiatives; supporting patient flow for inpatient ward area. A key focus of this role will be to ensure that patients are optimised with respect to medicines prior to their procedure and new pathways and guidelines are developed to support and optimise medicines use within the speciality.

This role, as with all our Advanced Pharmacist posts, has the responsibility of supervising diploma students and managing junior staff.

You will also be expected to contribute to the strategic development of the clinical pharmacy service.

  • Masters degree in Pharmacy (MPharm)
  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma / MSc or equivalent qualification

Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

Essential

  • Comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist practitioner including a solid grounding in a broad range of clinical specialties
  • Experience working as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting
  • Commitment and evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Computer literate and able to use Windows applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and internet
  • High standard of oral and written (including report writing) communication skills with attention to detail
  • Good and broad understanding of current hospital pharmacy practice and future direction of travel
  • IT skills and knowledge of the digital medicines agenda.

  • Clinical pharmacy experience within Elective Orthopaedics/Perioperative Medicine and an enthusiasm to develop this
  • Evidence of involvement in pharmacy practice research and/or audit

  • Experience line managing and/or conducting formal appraisals
  • Evidence of involvement in writing of guidelines
  • Presentation of abstract on pharmacy practice research at a regional or national conference
