Job summary

The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive.

The post will be based across all sites in the NMCPS Network but primary base will be Leighton Hospital. This is an interesting and important job, previous experience preferred in this field although this is not essential as full training is given.

Main duties of the job

Your role as a Mortuary Support Worker (MSW) is to work alongside trainee and qualified Mortuary Technologists as part of the mortuary department team to provide care to deceased patients.

The types of duties include: admitting and discharging deceased, viewing deceased to relatives, weighing and recording organs weights, washing and dressing deceased patients, cleaning the post mortem rooms, monitoring deceased's condition.

Acting with compassion you will put deceased patients at the centre of all you do.

You will communicate effectively with the mortuary team.

During winter months November - March the core hours are extended to accommodate for changes in service provision due to the demand of capacity.

You will show courage by embracing new ways of working and doing the right thing by the people you care for, including speaking up when you have concerns.

The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within the mortuary, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including the Pathology Quality Policy to provide support to the mortuary manager in order to ensure a high quality service.
