We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Biochemistry department.

This post is based at Royal Stoke University Hospital, but successful may be expected to provide cover as required at all NMCPS sites.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience of working in a fast-paced environment offering a wide variety of diagnostic tests and to expand and develop your existing knowledge and skills. The successful candidate will be expected to rotate through all sections of the laboratory performing a wide range of duties and providing support to the Senior Biomedical Scientist team.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Biochemistry at UHNM is the lead provider site as part of the North Midlands and Cheshire Pathology Service (NMCPS).

Following the NHS Improvement initiative to establish 29 Pathology Networks, the University Hospitals of North Midlands has been working in partnership with Mid Cheshire Hospitals Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and East Cheshire Trust (ECT), namely Cheshire Pathology Service for the past two years to form this Pathology Network.

The Biochemistry Department at UHNM is based on 2 sites; the main hub laboratory is at the Royal Stoke Hospital with an essential services laboratory situated at County Hospital Stafford which was refurbished in 2016.

The Royal Stoke laboratory provides a 24 hour service and it is expected that you will participate in the departmental shift system (AfC terms and conditions) after a suitable period of training.

The Biochemistry laboratory is UKAS accredited (9351) against ISO15189-2012.

The main hub Laboratory has a total laboratory automation solution providing a wide range of routine and specialist diagnostic services with Siemens Atellica CM/IM modules linked to a Siemens Aptio track. Further standalone platforms include Siemens Centaur XP's, Immulite XPi, SEBIA electrophoresis, BN11 Nephelometer, Tosoh G11 HPLC and a Shimadzu mass spectrometer LCMS-8050 system.
