Interventional Radiographers
Band 6 - Permanent Full Time/Part TimeBand 5 - Entry-level training position for newly qualified Radiographers, progression to Band 6 once trained/competent.
Join our expanding team at Royal Stoke University Hospital, providing specialist Vascular and Neurovascular intervention services. We offer opportunities for both experienced and newly qualified Radiographers, with full-time and part-time permanent posts available. Split positions with other modalities may be considered.
Our department features 2 state-of-the-art Siemens hybrid interventional theatres, capable of complex vascular and neuro endovascular interventions, hybrid imaging, and combined open-surgical procedures, with a third fluoroscopic procedure room. We plan to expand with more hybrid theatres over the next few years.
We run a Mon-Fri core-hours service and a 24/7 on-call service for emergencies. Candidates will join the on-call rota after comprehensive training and mentorship. Band 5 Radiographers can progress to Band 6 once competent.
We offer extensive training, mentorship, teaching sessions, and CPD opportunities through the Midlands Imaging Training Academy. We have strong industry links, providing opportunities to attend study days and conferences.

Main duties of the job
Undertaking Angiographic and other interventional duties/procedures.
Supporting interventional radiologists/neuro-radiologists with diagnostic/treatment procedures.
Proactively ensuring efficient, effective/safe running ofIR lists and patient flow within department.
Have strong leadership, teamworking, communication skills.
To deliver high-quality, patient-centred care for all our patients.
As Band 6, take a leadership role in absence of Superintendent/MTL, liaising with colleagues across sites.
To participate in supervising/training Student Radiographers, Radiographers, Registrars, Nurses and support staff.
Ensuring QA procedures are carried out as per departmental and Trust schedules.
Involvement in stock takes, quality improvement programmes and adverse incident reporting.
Participate in relevant clinical audit projects.
Contribute towards provision of the 24/7 on call service, working fairly with colleagues to cover all duties.
As a band 5 you will be working alongside a band 6 while on call: Once trained you will be independently on call.
To be involved in additional duties and opportunities which may arise to run and develop the service and your skillset.
Flexibility in working practice to optimise patient throughput.

To work at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust as an Interventional Radiology Radiographer within a busy and innovative Interventional Radiology department, assisting in diagnostic and treatment procedures for both vascular and neurovascular radiology, with some supervisory and leadership responsibilities within the multidisciplinary team when required.
The role has the following key responsibilities:
- To be familiar with the departmental Radiology Information System (CRIS) and Sectra PACS systems.
- To ensure quality assurance procedures are carried out according todepartmental schedules.
- To represent Imaging on external committees for your modality, if required.
- To maintain and extend good working relationships with all departments and personnel within the University Hospital of North Staffordshire NHS Trust.
- To understand and use the Sectra PACS system for images.
- To take responsibility for equipment closedown procedures and security checks.
- To gain understanding and stock control of consumables used in IR and Neuro.
- To ensure that there is a high standard of Diagnostic Imaging work produced bothpersonally and by those being supervised.
- On a rostered duty can organise own workload and delegate and supervise othermembers of the team working in the vicinity.
- Can prioritise workload to manage the care for a group of patients.
- Have an awareness of workload across the department and staffing levels and ability to escalate if necessary.
- To assist with arranging for collection of a patient and organising all relevant members of staff when called in for emergency cases on-call.
- To have the manual dexterity, coordination and sensory skills for positioning andmanipulation of patients and equipment to fine tolerances as accuracy is important.
- To facilitate the transfer of patients liaising with other wards anddepartments.
- To help plan and prioritise patient workload and theatre lists, ensuring the smoothrunning of the theatres with minimal downtime. This includes liaising with ward staff andother theatres to ensure timely transfer of patients to and from IR theatre.
- To have good knowledge of IR(ME)R 2018, IRR17 regulations and radiation protection practices.
- Assist in the management of resources and departmental stock items and take part in departmental stock checks when needed.
- Will be required to be able to undertake a range of manual handling procedures includingassistance with the movement of patients and equipment.
- To be flexible and able to manoeuvre between patients quickly, ensuring emergency situationsare attended in a timely fashion.
- Will be required to wear full theatre clothing, lead apron and thyroid shield whilst in theatre, possibly for extended periods of time.
- Working in a theatre environment where X-Ray radiation is in use and have awareness of ones own radiation dose.
- Ability to interpret complex information when there may be frequent, unplanned interruptions throughout the shift.
- Ability to communicate complex information to a range of colleagues and adapt communication style accordingly.
- The demonstrate skills for assessing and interpreting specialist, acute and other patient conditions, assist in the recognition of a deteriorating patient and initiating actions as appropriate.
