Job summary

We are seeking capable, enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Haematology & Blood Transfusion department within Blood Sciences. This post is based at the County Hospital site, but successful candidates are also expected to provide cover as required at the Royal Stoke University Hospital site in Stoke-on-Trent. You must have full HCPC registration for appointment as a Senior Biomedical Scientist along with an IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Haematology/Transfusion or equivalent and either anMSc, Higher Specialist Diploma or equivalent in biomedical science plus additional specialist training relevant to the post.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality and highly specialised diagnostic service through scientific and technical activities including performing laboratory investigations, analysing, interpreting and reporting results; ensuring that standards of quality and service delivery

Participate in and advise on, the routine workload, including complex and highly specialised techniques, using specialist knowledge and experience of practices underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical expertise

To have and use an extensive knowledge of the disease process and the clinical relevance and appropriateness of diagnostic tests requested. Therefore understands why certain tests (including the abbreviations and medical terminology) are requested in certain pathological situations and to advise clinicians regarding the clinical relevance and appropriateness of diagnostic tests.

Take a lead role in service development and equipment or procedural evaluation, including the implementation of new techniques.
