Senior Training Fellow in General Surgery (Colorectal Surgery)
Applications are invited for a Senior training fellow in Colorectal Surgery within the General Surgery department.
The current team consists of 11 surgeons with a variety of specialist interests including cancer surgery, robotic surgery, pelvic floor surgery and benign colorectal surgery. In addition, the team includes specialist cancer CNS plus ANPs. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team working at registrar level alongside specialist training registrars allocated to the unit. The job undertaken will include some emergency and on call work.
This post would be ideal for a doctor who has completed or near completion of their specialist training and wish to acquire additional training in sub specialist Colorectal Surgery.
Main duties of the job
- To participate in the specialist activities of the Directorate.
- To participate in ward rounds and, subsequently, ensuring effective management in the in-patient stay.
- To be responsible for the continuing care of patients as designated by consultant staff.
- To participate in new patient and follow-up outpatients clinics.
- To participate in audit within the department.
- To participate in the training of junior medical staff and other staff.
- To deputise for colleagues at an appropriate level.
- To carry out appropriate administrative duties in support of clinical commitments.

The appointee will be expected to work with professional colleagues and local managers to contribute in the efficient running of the Colorectal Service and will share with colleagues the medical and surgical management of patients referred in to the service, whether electively or non-electively. Applicants will need to demonstrate commitment to excellent teamwork with clinical colleagues, willingness to utilise and develop clinical care pathways in the overall management of patients and assist in improving these pathways over time, and a very positive attitude to dealing with patients. The applicant will be expected to participate in a 1 in 12 on call rota.
