Job summary
The ward manager has overall responsibility for the safe and timely delivery of SACT treatments within Ward 202. Working managerially and clinically, the ward manager provides visible leadership and support to the Unit nurses, leads service improvements and actively contributes to patient safety and high standards of care. Therefore, the SACT passport is paramount.
The ward manager will ensure that incidents are reported and complaints are dealt with in a timely manner.
The ward manager will ensure that the unit has the correct levels o staff and appropriate skills mix, taking corrective measures if required, and reviewing staffing on a daily basis.
The ward manager will ensure that sickness is managed according to policy and staff wellbeing is supported.
Main duties of the job
1. The Ward manager has continuing 24 hour responsibility for the management of the clinical area including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and the setting of standards.
2. The Ward Sister/Charge Nurse/Midwife will facilitate innovative and evidence based nursing/midwifery practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team.
3. The Ward manager will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally and achieve their maximum potential, working both managerially and clinically.
4. The Ward manager will liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary team and facilitate a collaborative approach to patient care. The Ward manager will report directly to the Matron.
