The University Hospital of North Midlands, Mid Cheshire and East Cheshire NHS Trusts are working collaboratively to form a Pathology network in line with a NHSI directive.We have an excellent opportunity for a Trainee Anatomical Pathology Technologist to join our friendly team at Leighton Hospital. Working with the Mortuary Manager you will have responsibility for delivering a full range of mortuary activities and take personal responsibility for the undertaking of all duties related to admission, identification and safe storage of deceased bodies for post mortem examination in accordance with the service procedures.

Job description

Job responsibilities

To work between all mortuaries in the network as requested by senior staff.

Hours of work are Monday Friday 8:00am 4:00pm. During winter months December March the core hours are between 6:00am 6:00pm, which may include some Saturdays.

To carry out routine work in all sections of the Mortuary as required by the mortuary manager and the senior mortuary technologists'.

To assist the Consultant Pathologists in Post Mortem work including the preparation of the deceased, the examination of the deceased, the re-construction of the deceased and the disinfection of the post mortem room facilities.

To assist in the development of mortuary procedures and protocols relating to Post Mortems and the general operation of the mortuary service.

To provide data entry support in relation to the receipt and removal of the deceased. To carry out any other office related duties as requested by the manager.

The post holder will be required to perform a range of routine and non-routine tasks within the mortuary, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) including the Pathology Quality Policy to provide technical support the mortuary manager in order to ensure a high quality service.

To work within the written Policies and Procedures of the Department especially in relation to Health and Safety and Quality. Assists with the monitoring of quality standards within the department.

To be an efficient and flexible member of the mortuary team assisting in the delivery of the service.

To assist the mortuary manager in providing a professional and dignified mortuary service for the trust.

To take part in both routine and specialised post mortem services on behalf of the coroner.

To take part in the mortuary out of hours service.

To adhere to all mortuary standard operational procedures.

Maintains clinical records in relation to work carried out.

Supervises and trains less experienced staff in own area of work.

Complete the level 3 diploma qualification in Anatomical Pathology Technology in a reasonable timeframe set out by the manager.

You will hold a full driving licence with access to a private motor vehicle to travel between sites, and to take part in the on call service.
