Job summary

The cardiology department at the University Hospitals of the North Midlands has an exciting opportunity for a band 5, qualified Healthcare Science Practitioner to join our friendly, forward thinking team.

The cardiology department offers a wide range of cardiac services including electrocardiography, ambulatory monitoring and analysis (including 12 lead holder monitoring), head up tilt table testing, exercise tolerance testing, ILR implant and follow- up, complex pacing and electrophysiology including 3D mapping and His bundle pacing.

The department supports hemodynamic monitoring for 4 cardiac catheterisation laboratories, 2 of which are dedicated to pacing and electrophysiology and 2 of which are dedicated to percutaneous coronary intervention and support our busy structural interventional program. The structural heart program at UHNM includes TAVI, percutaneous mitral valve leaflet repair, ASD and VSD closure, paravalvular leak closure, PFO and LAA occlusion.

The successful applicant will join a team of 57 healthcare scientists and healthcare science assistants who support our services at Royal stoke Hospital, County Hospital, and at our newly developed community clinics.

For newly qualified cardiac scientists we have an established 12 month preceptorship program to support transition in to a qualified role.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of this band 5 role are:

To support ambulatory monitoring and analysis

Support physiologist led exercise stress testing ( 2nd operator)

Support head-up tilt table testing (2nd operator)

Provision of electrocardiography services for outpatients, A&E, inpatients and in community settings

Provision of hemodynamic monitoring in the cardiac catheterisation laboratories for both percutaneous coronary intervention and structural interventional procedures. Training and support will be provided. At band 5 level catheter lab work is supported by senior colleagues during the working day. There is no out of hours or on call requirement for this role.

There is an expectation that the successful applicant will contribute to the training and development of junior staff in the department.
