Sleep & Ventilation Advanced Training Fellow

Fixed Term 12 Months

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University Hospital of North Midlands to join our Respiratory team working at our Royal Stoke and County sites.

Main duties of the job

This post is designed to offer specialist experience in the provision of respiratory support for chronic ventilatory failure and in the management of respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders. It will be suitable for individuals aiming at a career in these disciplines. Applications will be welcomed from those seeking post CCT experience or on a respiratory training programme looking for out of programme experience.

The post can have educational or training approval, if discussed with the Training Programme Director (TPD) prior to starting in the thoracic unit. The consultant staff will plan a training programme with the successful applicant to best suit the individual's objectives.

The appointee will be encouraged to participate in the research activity of the department and suitable new projects will be fully supported.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Participate, under consultant direction, in the management of patients in the unit.
  • Developing the ability to formulate appropriate management plans for both planned and emergency situations
  • Participate in consultant led rounds
  • Lead a weekly ward round reviewing and discharging patients as appropriate
  • Working alongside the senior doctors in outpatient clinics
  • Provide ward and clinic cover at SpR level for colleagues on NIV unit
  • Participating in weekly Ventilation MDT and monthly specialised MND MDT
  • There may be an opportunity to take part in the on-call rota if applicant wishes
  • Seeing NIV referrals in-hours.
  • Reviewing and liaising with intensive care units prior to transfer to ur unit for ventilator weaning.
  • Participate in clinical audit, research projects relevant to the specialty
  • Develop expertise in management of Complex patients in Sleep and get involved in polysomnography

  • ALS
  • GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Academic and extracurricular achievements
  • Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • 12 months experience within the NHS at Respiratory Registrar level

Desirable

  • Experience within Respiratory Medicine Of interest in Sleep and Ventilation

  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Highly motivated individual
  • Full UK driving Licence and a vehicle that can be used for work purposes as multiple sites are covered by the service.
