Job summary
Applications are invited for the position of B7 Optometrist 3.75 hours based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital & County Hospital.
We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated applicants, capable of working individually and as part of a multidisciplinary team. The post holder undertake a wide range of optometric duties, providing services to specialised paediatric, corneal, glaucoma, neurological, diabetic and macular clinics - assessing a wide range of complex adult/paediatric patients.
You will be working closely with our diverse team of 13 orthoptists and their support team - 2 paediatric Consultant Ophthalmologists / Corneal specialist Ophthalmologist plus other ophthalmology consultant/team.
Main duties of the job
- To provide comprehensive, high quality Optometric services as an autonomous practitioner and to work as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary teams.
- To provide a specialist role to include assessment, diagnosis and management of patients from paediatric ophthalmology, corneal, glaucoma, neurology, diabetic and macular clinics as well as patients with special educational needs.
- To use advanced clinical reasoning to assess, diagnose and manage patients, including in-patients and out-patients. This includes new and follow-up patients as well as onward referral and safe discharge. Patients may have visual impairment, ocular motility disorders and or amblyopia. This needs specialist skills based on clinical and analytic reasoning and using evidence based practice.
- To actively teach optometry to medical and non-medical personnel and participate in the clinical supervision of undergraduate students.
- Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills required to practise as an advanced optometrist and keep a personal professional development portfolio.
- To undertake audit and research activities.
