Job summary

The post holder will join a team of 5.5 WTE musculoskeletal radiology consultants. Their duties will include providing a comprehensive diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal imaging service across the Trust. The post holder should be a dedicated clinician wishing to actively assist and further develop Musculoskeletal Radiology services in the Trust.

The post holder will join a team of of 48 WTE Consultant Radiologists and will provide MSK, diagnostic and interventional radiology services to Trauma & Orthopaedics, Spine and Rheumatology Directorates.

The skill mix is well established within MSK and currently we have a large number of advanced practitioners and consultant radiographers who report plain films, sonographers who perform and report MSK diagnostic US examinations and an advanced practitioner who reports knee and spine MRI exams.

Main duties of the job

As a Locum MSK consultant radiologist at UHNM you will be working with some of the latest equipment available in a purpose built department. A new hospital complex at the Royal Stoke University Hospital opened in March 2012 and provides high quality imaging equipment. In January 2017 a dedicated IR Day Case Unit with 8 beds and IR clinic facilities was built within the IR department. Overall the Imaging department has seven MRI scanners, a mobile MRI and nine CT scanners on both sites plus 2 ED scanners in ED - one of which is a dual energy Siemens Force.

At UHNM the MSK radiologists work closely with their colleagues through cancer MDTs and joint clinico-radiological conferences. The successful applicant will share responsibilities to support the Trauma and orthopaedics, Spinal and Rheumatology Directorates through Multi-Disciplinary team meetings. Currently Spine, Rheumatology, Diabetes, Orthopaedic and Tumour MDTMs are in place and there is a rota for a lead radiologist for each of them.

The post holder will contribute to thedelivery of a high quality radiology servicewithin a busy imaging department providing both general and specialist services in diagnostics and interventional imaging which performs more than 700,000 Imaging examinations and procedures per year.

The post-holder will contribute to the weekday on-call service on rotation with also a 1 in 8 rota for Saturdays or Sundays.

UHNM is a tertiary referral centre for Trauma and Orthopaedics, supported by a team of 29 Orthopaedic surgeons, taking in a population of approximately 1.5 million from Shropshire, Staffordshire, South Cheshire and Wolverhampton. The spinal team has 9 dedicated Spine surgeons providing all aspects of trauma and orthopaedics and spinal services including deformity correction, oncology surgery and trauma. There is a huge demand for MSK intervention services from these directorates for procedures including image guided injections, arthrography, myelography, biopsies, nerve root blocks and vertebroplasty and the post holder is expected to contribute to this type of work.

The Haywood Hospital has specialist services for rheumatology and rehabilitation. The Rheumatology centre at the Haywood Hospital welcomes patients from North Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire. The Haywood hospital is a centre of excellence and has an active research team known nationally and internationally for its work.
