Job summary
Are you looking for your next challenge? Do you want to work for a team that makes a difference, every single day, to bereaved people in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent? Bereavement & Medical Examiner Services at UHNM are looking to expand the management team in preparation for commencement of the statutory Medical Examiner system in Autumn 2024.
We are looking for an Operations & Performance Manager to lead and oversee a team responsible for managing the legal processes and administrative practicalities after a patient's death. You will have the ability to balance empathy with the need to make decisions and problem solve. You will have a positive outlook, be able to motivate teams and have high levels of resilience and emotional intelligence.
The successful candidate will have access to a comprehensive range of training and development opportunities, to develop a specific level of knowledge and understanding to manage the unique and interesting situations that you may not be exposed to in other operational management roles.
The role is full time, office-based and will work cross-site to meet service needs. Occasional participation in weekend, bank holiday and on-call cover will be required.
Main duties of the job
You will contribute to the delivery of a high quality Bereavement & Medical Examiner Service, by providing effective and efficient operational management and leadership of staff working within the service, with the end goal of ensuring the timely and accurate completion of relevant legal paperwork following a patient's death, and co-ordination of the various complex practicalities pertaining to death certification.
The role will involve providing leadership and direction to a diverse team, including (but not limited to) managing performance, training and wellbeing. You will act as a senior point of contact and source of advice for staff, relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals, Coroner and Registration Services. You will be required to prioritise your own workload and the workload of your team. You will support Medical Examiners in their role of scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death, in line with Learning from Deaths framework.
You will support the service management team with performance monitoring and will take delegated responsibility for specific projects or change and improvement initiatives as required.
