Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 maternity support worker to join the fetal medicine team within maternity.

The post holder will need to have a sensitive and compassionate approach to providing care within this specialist area of maternity. The fetal medicine department is a busy environment, providing care over five days per week at Royal Stoke.

You will support a dedicated team in providing fetal medicine care and also work collaboratively with other specialities such as the screening team, preterm birth midwife, antenatal clinic and neighbouring Trusts.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will perform maternal observations including venepuncture.

Set up for procedures including amniocentesis.

Support women and families during clinical consultatations.

Ensure the cleanliness of the clinical and non-clinical environment and assist the midwife and fetal medicine consultant.

Ensure that equipment is in working order and reporting any concerns, faults or breakages to the appropriate person.

Ensure adequate stock levels and maintain the clinical environment

Recognises and promotes the principles of behaviour changes required in health promotion activities including diet, food hygiene, exercise, personal hygiene and smoking cessation. (For example, assess CO levels and signposting to local service appropriately as per policy guidance).o To complete the relevant documentation for screening test performed in the maternity electronic records.o To recognise any deterioration in mental and emotional wellbeing and respond appropriately, escalating to midwife to enable an appropriate care pathway.o To be aware of and understand the current policy and service frameworks for mental health (e.g. Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Mental Health Act).o To be aware of perinatal mental health issues and the appropriate referral pathway and to escalate to multi-disciplinary team and concerns noted within home or hospital setting.
