Job summary
The Delivery suite HDU nurse would work in colabertaion wih the wider MDT including midwives and the delivery suite coordinator to provide clinical care to maternity patients who require additionl high dependency care. This would predominatly be based on delivery suite but could also include recovery and other inpatient wards.
The Nurse will participate in innovation and evidence based nursing practice through professional leadership and supporting the clinical team in close liaison with the delivery suite coordinator and manager.
The Senior Staff Nurse will act as a credible and professional role model and encourage and empower other staff to develop both personally and professionally to achieve their maximum potential. They will create a positive and supportive work environment for staff.
Main duties of the job
- empathetic manner to patients and their relatives.
- Communicate sensitive information about patients to other members of the health care team and with the consent of the patient to their relatives.
- Demonstrate excellent commubnication skills when dealing withdifficult situations.
- Provide clear and concise patient handover to other members of the team.
- Escalate concerns in a patient's condition to senior members of the nursing/midwifery team, medical sta
- Initiate referrals to other members of the healthcare team.
- Ensure that patient concerns are addressed on the ward/department and work with the Patient Advisory and Liaison Service (PALS) and patient forums. Participate in the resolution of complaints / adverse incidents and support the Sister /Charge Nurse in the development and implementation of action plans to prevent re-occurrence.
- To communicate in a professional manner with all patients and visitors to the ward /department
- Promote equality and diversity ensuring that the individual needs of the patients and their families are recognised.
- Take personal responsibility for ensuring communication relating to patient discharge is accurate and kept up to day ie PSAG board
- It is expected that ALL employees of the Trust will take part in the appraisal process each year with the first appraisal taking place within the first 6 months from appointment
