Main duties of the job

The Imaging Department at UHNM is a busy department providing both general and specialist services in diagnostic and interventional imaging which carries out over 700,000 examinations every year. There are established Lower GI, Hepato-pancreato-biliary, Oesophago-gastric, IBD and benign GI MDT's, with cover in rotation.

Image guided biopsies, aspirations and drainages to support inpatients and oncology patients are provided by GI Radiologists as part of the wider body radiology team. A Radiology day-case unit (8 bed) in the Radiology Department opened in January, 2017.

The Gastrointestinal Radiology Services are based on a strong ethos of Quality Assurance, Audit, Evidence and Research. The GI Radiologists are currently recruiters for four national and international multicentre studies, with grants for 2 local trials in progress. A recent HEE grant funded Stoke as a CTC training centre of excellence for Radiographers from across the Midlands. Areas of recent service improvement include expansion of the RIG service, 3T body MRI, endorectal cancer staging, TACE and a static PET scanner.

About us

The University Hospital is the main teaching hospital for the Keele University Undergraduate Medical School and there are close ties with the University of Keele and Staffordshire University.

There is a high level of skill-mix within the department and teaching and training of radiographers and junior radiologists is at the forefront. Every year, there are 7 junior radiologists joining the department for their training. We currently have 38 juniors at all levels and new training facilities. There are also strong and active connections with Keele Medical School. This brings about many teaching opportunities for candidates.

Research is a growing area of activity. A specialised research team within the department will help support research, studies and collaboration with other centres and the industry.

We are a top ranked trauma unit and a Consultant job here will provide great exposure to acute body radiology imaging.
