Job summary
The Senior Nursing Assistant has a breadth of knowledge across the fields of nursing, providing holistic and person centred care and support to patients in the Acute Stroke services at Royal Stoke Hospital. The Senior Nursing Assistant works independently within their sphere of nursing while under the supervision of registered nurses.
The senior Nursing Assistant should demonstrate a level of skill and understanding which enables them to undertake specific tasks delegated by the registered nurse and in accordance with relevant procedures, guidelines and policies. S/he will undertake both routine and specially identified tasks for which they have been trained and assessed as competent.
They will be able to display the skills required to work in the TIA clinic. Coordinating care for clinic patients alongside the wider MDT.
Main duties of the job
Senior Nursing Assistants are equipped with knowledge, understanding, skills, attitudes and behaviours relevant to employment as a Senior Nursing Assistant. Senior Nursing Assistants contribute to the health and well-being of patients, staff and service users, integral to all of this is the ability to communicate effectively with sensitivity, compassion and to manage relationships with people.
- Monitor closely patients having undergone a clinical activity ensuring their safety, comfort and well -being.
- Undertake a range of delegated and specific clinical skills for patients that demonstrate an enhanced level of competency /technical expertise.
- To assist in the smooth running of the TIA clinic service within the Acute Stroke Unit at Royal Stoke Hospital.
- To maintain patient records
- Recognise the need for and escalate to a registered nurse when required.
- Safely support patients in a clinical setting.
