Job summary
We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and forward thinking senior physiotherapist who is interested in developing their specialised rehabilitation skills both within the acute setting (stroke unit) and within the outreach service providing Therapy Enhanced Discharge (TED) covering the specialties of stroke, neurology and trauma & orthopaedic. We were the first therapy team in the country to establish the enhanced early supported discharge service that provides high intensity therapy and care in the community which supports more timely discharges from the acute hospital setting. We are now expanding our community pathway to Therapy Enhanced Discharge (TED) and are able to accommodate and support even more patients. This post is based at Royal Stoke Hospital but supports our community services and is expected to provide therapy reviews in the community.
Interdisciplinary working and patient centred care is fundamental to our practice, to enable patients to achieve their optimal level of independence.
You will be an integral part of our innovative and friendly team working with patients following specialised care; the integrated therapy team covers a 7 day working week from 07.30 until 20.00 (long day working).
Driving license and access to car are essential for this post, as travel in the community will be required.

Main duties of the job
You will require excellent interpersonal skills to enable you to work closely with a range of staff from various professional backgrounds. You will provide early rehabilitation for specialised patients (stroke, trauma & neurology), setting goals & treatment plans to be followed by the interdisciplinary team. You will also be promoting a seamless transition from the acute hospital to the home environment whilst continuing to work towards patient's rehabilitation goals in their own home or normal place of residence. The ability to develop & sustain good working relationships with colleagues & peers is essential. You must demonstrate an empathetic approach and be responsive to patient needs and be flexible in your approach to work and adaptable in carrying out your tasks, managing your own workload & working unsupervised. You will be required to take charge of the therapy team on some shifts.
o To provide specialist therapy skills to the therapy team within the Hyper Acute and Acute Stroke Unit based Royal Stoke University Hospital and Therapy Enhanced Discharge (TED).
o To assess and treat own caseload, which may include complex presentations and to maintain own records as an autonomous practitioner.
o To assess and manage referrals to the TED service. May involve making autonomous decisions regarding accepting patients and organisation of caseload.
o To assist senior staff in the education and supervision of junior colleagues, assistants and students.
