Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be instrumental in developing a new position of Advance Nurse Practitioner in Plastic/Trauma Surgery within Complex wound management at UHNM.

The Consultant team is excited to develop a new ANP role, with the hope that we can invest in training an individual to support many of the Department's needs with potential further development of the role. We envisage the successful candidate will fit in with the friendly and dynamic ethos of the department, be autonomous, and proactive.

The successful candidate will become an integral member of the Plastic/Trauma surgery team and should be able to demonstrate experience in plastic surgery, wound healing and will have achieved/achieving surgical competencies.

We anticipate the major roles will include, but not be limited to; management of complex wounds following trauma managed by the plastic/Ortho surgery team. Attendance at Plastics/Trauma orthopaedic ward round undertaking or completing daily duties for these patients as agreed within the plastic surgery MDT. Will assist with the management of pre and post op patients under the care of Plastics/Trauma.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide direct expert Plastics/Trauma professional clinical care and Wound management through health assessment, initiation of treatment, formulation and alteration of treatment and monitoring of care programmes.
  • Requests imaging in line with local protocol and patient pathways
  • To use expert specialist knowledge in caring for Plastics/Trauma patients and advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide support and advice to the consultant teams, nursing staff and other healthcare staff and manage own caseload of patients with complex care.
  • Provide expert nursing leadership and consultancy in the development and delivery of care to individuals and their families with Plastics/Trauma conditions.
  • Instrumental within outpatient clinics where patients receive follow up care during rehabilation/wound healing phase
  • Design and implement Plastics/Trauma transformational corporate
  • Knowledge or nursing role and responsibilities within clinical governance
  • The post holder will work as a skilled, autonomous practitioner as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality care to patients. Will work across regional, divisional and professional boundaries, encouraging inter - disciplinary working for the benefit of improved patient outcomes and efficient resources.
  • Will work across hospital sites to ensure provision of care in the wound management of Plastics/Trauma
