Job summary

We are looking for an experienced nurse who can demonstrate excellence in delivering care for the acutely ill adult. The Medical Nurse Practitioner team provides support for the patients within the Medical Division and has expanded the team to support County Hospital. The MNP is the first point of contact for all acutely ill patients out of hours as part of the Hospital at night team. You must have a positive attitude with well-developed interpersonal skills, leadership, vision and drive to fulfil this key organizational role. Successful candidates will be able to work autonomously and manage their own workload. The successful candidates will be expected to work across both hospital sites.

There are many educational opportunities within this post. You will be on part 1 or 12 NMC register. You must be able to provide evidence of recent ongoing professional development. It is essential to possess a relevant qualification and experience for the care of the acutely ill adult. You will meet the essential and some of the desirable qualifications as per job specification.

You must be able to work flexibly, as this post is predominantly out of hours.

You will be provided with a comprehensive preceptorship programme, with an identified mentor. Dependent on experience, you may be provided with up to 3 months supernumerary within the team. Funding is available for essential courses. You will be working within the four pillars of advanced clinical practice.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the H@N team, looking after medical patients across both Royal Stoke and County hospital sites.

You will attend and participate/lead the medical handover and allocate Nerve centre devices/logins to medical staff and colleagues. You will have coordinator responsibilities in the triage and allocation of tasks for the inpatient population.

You will have clinical responsibilities, in the review and treatment of medical patients, in the out of hours period that may have deteriorated, often working autonomously and will be expected to undertake the appropriate prescribing course.

You will complete an appropriate Advanced Life Support course and perform as part of the cardiac arrest team in the out of hours period.

The MNP team also provide educational support to the AIM course and the clinical holding course, as well as delivering induction information to the new junior doctor's intake.
