Leg Ulcer Specialist Nurse

Job summary

The Leg Ulcer Specialist Nurse is a member of the Leg Ulcer Specialist team supporting countywide place based teams, promoting research-based practice in leg ulcer management with an emphasis on prevention and proactive management of complex and chronic wound management through education, role modelling and audit. It will be necessary to work individually and as part of a team across professional boundaries, providing comprehensive care that is sensitive to the needs or the patient population.

Main duties of the job

The Leg Ulcer Specialist Nurse will clinically supervise and provide support to regulated and unregulated team members with career development, clinical capabilities and behaviours, education and supervision. They will assist the Professional Lead with recruitment and retention, support the wellbeing of the team and improve quality outcomes and budget management as well as implementing service improvement schemes and supporting in pathway development.

Provides clinical expertise, specialist advice, support and information across the leg ulcer management spectrum to other healthcare workers, patients and families

Assists with development and facilitation of the leg ulcer prevention and wound management pathways for SWFT ensuring they reflect current best practice guidelines

Evaluate research findings and facilitate evidence based practice

Support the lead nurse in updating Leg Ulcer practice

Undertakes advanced holistic wound and leg ulcer assessment, including planning, implementation, evaluation and reassessment. This will necessitate high levels of autonomy and advocacy.

Disseminate research findings and knowledge by pursuing opportunities to present work at national conferences or via publications

Establishes priorities of care in accordance with caseload/workload priority

Promote and implement evidence based practice

To undertake investigations working with multi- professional team
