An opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Midwife/Nurse Tongue Tie Practitioner to join SWFT Warwick Hospital Bank to support our Infant Feeding Team.
We are looking for an experienced, passionate and enthusiastic individual to assist with:
The provision of the Tongue Tie service
The post holder will liaise with the Tongue Tie Practitioner, Infant Feeding Lead and Infant Feeding Team
The Tongue Tie Practitioner will assess for and treat Tongue Tie and help with the smooth running of the Tongue Tie service.
The post holder must have a current Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife and Tongue Tie Practitioner qualifications and have been carrying out tongue function assessment using the Hazel-Baker assessment tool and frenulotomy, regularly within the last year
Main duties of the job
The Tongue Practitioner will be an experienced, competent practitioner who will is to assess for and treat ankyloglossia in babies up to 8 weeks old and provide feeding support after the procedure and plan ongoing care and support with families.
The practitioner may also be involved with the running of the Tongue Tie service including triaging babies and collecting data

CLINICAL RESPONSBILITIES
To:
Monitor and maintain standards of care in accordance with the Trusts policies, Guidelines, Protocols and Professional Regulations
Actively participate in the promotion of breastfeeding and increasing the initiation and maintenance of breast feeding
Assess for reduced tongue function and ankyloglossia using the Hazel Baker assessment tool
Carry out frenulotomy when indicated, with parental consent
Competently manage any bleeding following frenulotomy or other emergencies, according to Trust guidelines
Provide infant feeding support in line with the BFI Standards and SWFT Infant Feeding Policy
Have the skill to recognise feeding complications and deal with clinical problems in a safe and appropriate manner including making appropriate feeding plans
Liaise with and advise members of the multidisciplinary team on the individual needs of mothers in relation to infant feeding and ensure that each mother has access to appropriate services
Make direct referrals to the Infant Feeding Lead, paediatrician, ENT consultant as determined by the health needs of the mother and baby
Give information on accessing breastfeeding supporters/support groups when appropriate
Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records using the computer based clinical information system when appropriate
Identify and report any risk management issues, in accordance with trust procedures
Support the other Tongue Tie Practitioners with the provision of the Tongue Tie service, including triaging mothers and babies
