Job summary
The orthopaedic department refurbishment of Theatres took place in 2011 and. A further theatre was built in 2019. The Main Theatre facility now contains 6 operating suites including 4 clean air theatres. There are also another 2 clean air theatres in the Day Surgery Unit. There is also a vanguard theatre attached to the elective orthopaedic ward.There are currently 13 Orthopaedic Consultants that provide Orthopaedic services within the Trust.The Consultants are supported by:An Associate Specialist (Mr. Bello Dikko)One Senior Orthopaedic FellowSeven middle grade DoctorsFour Specialist Registrars from the West Midlands Deanery (totalling 11)Junior training grades who form part of a combined junior surgical out of hour's rota.3 ACP'sThe successful applicant will have the support of the medical secretarial service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to provide daytime cover for the ward/unit and thebasic working week is flexible with core hours from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.
Monday to Friday, totalling 40 hours.
The on-call trauma week is undertaken 1 week in 8.
This is a Locum consultant position. Fixed term for one year.

1) To support the delivery of the Adult inpatient Orthopaedic service at Warwick Hospital.2) To manage both Adult & Paediatric Orthopaedic trauma during the on-call week. This is supported by the Paediatric Consultants and the dedicated Children & Young Persons ward staff (MacGregor ward) at Warwick hospital, and the regional tertiary referral centre forPaediatric Orthopaedics at University Hospital of Coventry & Warwick (UHCW). There is no provision for anaesthetising children <2 years at the hospital. Transfer to UHCW is arranged for these patients. These services are available 7-days a week and are also supported by an on-call duty manager for the hospital. Mentoring and clinical support advice are available at the weekend from the Clinical Director in Orthopaedics and the other sub-speciality Consultants.3) To support the management of primary hip and knee arthroplasty.
