Job summary
An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen in Coventry, part of South Warwickshire NHS foundation trust.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and motivated stop smoking in pregnancy advisor to work within an established family health and lifestyle team.
The overall aim is to further reduce harm caused by smoking for babies and families by implementing and utilising the government Tabaco control plan-smoke free generation.
The post holder will provide specialist stop smoking support to pregnant clients, their partners and family members including individual client assessments, Carbon Monoxide testing, setting a quit date, guidance, motivational and behavioural support to maintain the quit attempt and relapse prevention Have experience in and be competent to participate in educating pregnant women and birthing people about the benefits of stopping smoking in pregnancy and give support to those women wanting to quit. Promote smoke free homes and support and advice for women, birthing people and families about passive smoking.
Be able to deliver Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring to a high standard and engage in the data collection and collation of CO rates in pregnancy and post-partum.
Maintain accurate up to date and comprehensive records at all times.
Ability to have difficult but motivational conversations with women, birthing people and their partners about the risks of smoking in pregnancy and the postnatal period
Main duties of the job
As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, all expectant women and birthing people and their partners will be offered support via a maternity smoke-free pregnancy pathway. As part of this pathway all women and birthing people admitted to hospital who smoke will be offered NHS funded tobacco cessation treatment and follow up support.

The post holder will work within the family health and lifestyle service and the maternity team to achieve element 1 of the saving babies lives care bundle and reduce smoking in pregnancy by providing individualised stop smoking support to women and families in a flexible and innovative way.

This post will contribute to tackling inequalities in health through promoting and supporting people to stop smoking. It focuses on engaging with people in all maternity settings and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals. While supporting them to make positive health changes that will improve pregnancy & birth outcomes and longer-term family health.
