Job summary

Part time post - hours negotiable to suit service needs. Individual will need to be flexible to suit the service needs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic band 6 nurse to join our radiology department. We are a friendly, supportive department, which is committed to delivering a high standard of individual patient care within our environment.

Nursing support is an integral part of this Radiology Department with involvement in fluoroscopy and interventional procedures, CT, MRI and ultrasound procedures.

The role involves pre, peri and post care of patients undergoing radiology procedures both adults and paediatrics. This would involve administering sedation, monitoring, scrubbing to assist procedures when required etc. You will be required to wear a protective lead apron as appropriate.

Applications are invited from registered nurses with Radiology, ITU, Theatre, Recovery, Endoscopy, Cardiac or Day investigations. Experience is desirable but not essential as in-house training will be given.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the Interventional Radiology Team, supporting Radiologists and Radiographers undertaking complex radiological examinations. Promoting good working practices and ensuring high quality care is provide to all patients in the Radiology Department

Job responsibilities

CLINICALTo work in the Interventional Room within the Radiology Department,supporting all members of the multi-disciplinary team

To be responsible for the administration of intra-venous (IV) medication asprescribed having undertaken the necessary training and competencies todo so

To ensure that the patient is monitored during their complex interventional examination

To ensure that all of the patients needs are continually assessed andappropriate care is given and recorded in their Healthcare Record

Following appropriate training you will be expected to scrub alongside theConsultant Radiologist for complex procedures, being able to interpretfluoroscopy images, anticipate the consultants needs and communicateany concerns or issues during often long and complex examinations

To monitor patients in Ultrasound (U/S), MRI, Fluoroscopy or CTDepartment following biopsy or drainage as required

To undertake all examinations and patient care to the highest standards ofevidenced base care

To cannulate patients for IV contrast and pain relief when required

To catheterise adult patients for Micturating Cystograms

To act as the Radiology Department Lead for Infection Prevention, ensuring that Trust Policies and Procedures for Infection Prevention are adhered to.

To undertake the following audits, the results of which should be reportedat Radiology Department Meeting and their findings disseminated to staffand any changes in practice be identified and implemented:

  • Hand Hygiene Audit
  • Cleaning Audit
  • O2 and Suction Audit

To comply with procedures, protocols and policies of the Trust and in theRadiology Department, reporting any variances and critical incidents.Participate in reviews of departmental documentation, policies andprocedures

To be responsible for clean, well equipped working environment at all times

Participate in ensuring that the stock and resources are replenished asrequired. Identifying any resource deficits and assist in identifying actionsto resolve the deficit and including ordering of stock items.

To be responsible for reporting any faults or breakdowns to Section Lead

Participate in any extended day / on call / out of hours programme that isin operation or implemented in the future

To be responsible for monitoring and teaching clinical nursing skills toradiographers, assistant practitioners and radiographic aides.

Provide CPD sessions and teaching to the department.
