Job summary
This is a joint acute and community paediatrician job, with predominant acute component to this job. The successful candidate will participate in a 1 in 9 on-call rota in the Acute Trust. The Consultant will be on call on a weekday with an expectation of on-site cover to the handover which happens at 9.30pm. This arrangement helps with the evening rush of referrals and will improve the quality of care. The juniors benefit from the added input of a consultant.
In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to undertake some community Paediatric clinics. This can be discussed further during the interview process to see how best to accommodate any special interests of the candidate.
Acute Paediatric Outpatients clinics are undertaken at Warwick. In addition to general, specialist clinics are undertaken - Diabetic and Endocrine clinics, Respiratory clinic, Paediatric surgery clinics (visiting Consultant, Leicester, once in two months), Feeding Clinic, Epilepsy Clinic and Allergy clinics. There is scope for service development in the area of special interest of the successful appointees.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will:
- Join the Paediatric Consultant team to deliver a first class service at SWFT and contribute to the development of the services.
- Support the department in meeting the challenging key performance indicators.
- Deliver agreed standards of care.
- Support delivery of activity targets in partnership with Clinical Commissioning Groups and support service developments, where possible.
- Allow flexibility through effective prospective cover.
- Provide professional supervision, direction and training for junior medical staff.
- Take an active role in audit, research, teaching and governance.
- Participate in SUDIC investigations and report writing
- Participate in the on-call rota for General Paediatrics and Neonates.
- Participate in plans to lead to cost efficiencies across the Department.
- Contribute to risk management procedures.
- Ensure Continuing Professional Development targets are achieved.
Take part in the revalidation and annual appraisal processe
About us
9 cubicles, 1 High Dependency Bed and an adjacent outpatient area for children.
The ward has a resuscitation and stabilisation area fully equipped to the 'West Midlands Standards for Care of the Critically Ill Child.' A & E facilities at Warwick Hospital have a separate paediatric waiting area with 2 assessment rooms and a completely equipped paediatric resuscitation bay. Children requiring intensive care are transferred primarily by the KIDS Retrieval service from Birmingham Children's Hospital, but also through the Leicester Retrieval Service, and Intensive care is provided primarily at Birmingham, Leicester and Stoke-on-Trent.
PAU
In January 2021 we opened the doors to our brand new PAU unit, which offers same day emergency care for children across the county with referrals for the unit being take from NHS 111, GPs and the Emergency Department.
