Job summary

Are you innovative, dynamic, empathetic and give 110% and would like to further develop your leadership skills? If so we are looking for you to come and join our professional, but friendly team on Charlecote Ward. We are a 21 bedded Orthogeriatric Ward but we do also take medical patients to maintain the hospital flow.

We are looking for a compassionate and inspirational Band 5 nurse who feels they are ready for a Band 6 position or an existing Band 6 to support our excellent nursing team. You will need to work well with our multidisciplinary team to aid effective, safe and timely discharges as our patients have complexity of needs and dependencies..

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication skills, deliver care that is evidence based, safe and of a high quality. You will act as a role model to others, encourage best practice.

You will need to display excellent leadership skills and be able to deputise for the ward manager. There will be opportunity for you to gain further experience with ward audits, root cause analysis and complaints. Training will be provided where required. You will need to be flexible to cover days, nights and weekends.

As a teaching area for nursing students, you will be committed to supporting and supervising junior staff and students to maintain excellent standards of care. You will on occasion be given learning lead shifts to support learners and new starters on the ward as part of our commitment to support development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the development of the ward team and support the Ward Manager in the delivery of a consistently high quality and cost effective service.

To deputise for the Ward Manager as required.

Key Responsibilities

To provide clinical and professional leadership and support to all non-medical staff in the ward, ensuring that nursing practice is based on current and best evidence.

Implement a communication system to keep patients and their relatives/families informed of treatment and progress. Undertake audits at regular intervals to maintain standards of record keeping.

Supervises and monitors junior staff in developing the necessary skills to identify care priorities and address them in a pertinent and timely manner, seeking advice where appropriate.

Communicates and interacts with patients, carers and staff in a non-judgmental way, demonstrating mutual respect and trust utilising a variety of communication skills.

Adheres to the systems for reporting clinical incidents ensuring accurate and timely completion of Trust incident forms. Monitors the practice of other staff.

Investigate complaints and untoward incidents in accordance with Trust policies and procedures. Provide statements accurately, timely and professionally. Support the ward manager in improving systems to prevent recurrence.

Ensure that the wards clinical procedures and protocols are understood and adhered to by all staff. These should represent best possible practice and reflect Trust and National strategy for the management of emergency and acute patients.

Contribute to the recruitment and selection of quality staff for the unit, identifying future job requirements for profiling to compliment the ward team and to participate in induction programmes, Mentorship/preceptorship and Trust recruitment open and assessment days.
