Job summary

Our Pain MDT service is looking for an enthusiastic Physiotherapist to workwithin the service for 10 hours per week.

You will utilise your skills in chronic pain management to improve patient outcomes.

You will be working alongside other specialists within pain management to ensure patients are empowered to manage their conditions and improve quality of life.

Main duties of the job

To work as a Specialist Physiotherapist within the Pain MDT Service, alongside Specialist Pain Consultants, Psychologists and other Physiotherapists. The clinic expertly triages patients with diverse presentations to provide a diagnosis, treatment and onward referral for patients. Assessment within the clinic includes interpreting x-ray, MRI imaging, blood tests, EMG studies & ultrasound reports.

To hold responsibility for your own outpatient musculoskeletal caseload . To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous expert practitioner.

To take a role in the competency assessment, education and training of other SWFT staff in relation to Complex Pain.

To take a role in promoting and developing SWFT Complex Pain Services through review, audits and participation in university clinical trials, and the implementation of Complex Pain evidence based treatment guidelines. Promoting the Service Pathway through education and supporting other Healthcare Professionals within South Warwickshire.

To deputise for the Pain Team Lead when required.

To possess specialist clinical knowledge related to Complex Pain acquired through Masters level (or equivalent) study, supplemented by specialist training experience.

Act as an expert clinician for pain related conditions offering advice, support and guidance and acting in a consultancy role for other staff.

To support the tiered Pain Management treatment programs working in close collaboration with the Pain Team Lead, Physiotherapy staff and other disciplines (i.e. psychology & pain consultants).

To work closely with SWFT Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Departments and SWIMS (South Warwickshire Integrated Musculoskeletal Service) to ensure Complex Pain patients are offered an equitable service across South Warwickshire.

To work within CSP, Departmental & Trust Guidelines, National Clinical Guidelines and National Service Frameworks and to monitor own and others standards of practice, as appropriate.

Managerial / Organisational

Together with the Specialist Outpatient Pathway Lead and Pain Team Lead, deputise for the operational management and co-ordination of the Pain MDT Service, in line with Trust policies and procedures.

To work with the Specialist Outpatient Pathway Lead and the Pain Team Lead to evaluate Complex Pain Services and undertake strategic and operational planning and implementation of service developments to provide patients with the best evidenced care within resources available.

To take a role in the development of South Warwickshire evidence based clinical guidelines for Complex Pain Care.

Work with the Pain Team Lead to collect activity and clinical audit data relevant to the Pain MDT Service. Analyse and interpret data to provide reports and recommendations to the Musculoskeletal Pathway Leads.

The post holder will help ensure that the Complex Pain Service delivers effective healthcare that is evidence based and in line with professional and trust policies using accredited outcome measures in order to provide a high quality service and will support the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Team to achieve this.

Liaising with the Pain Team Lead to ensure that the Pain MDT Service is coordinated and integrated effectively conforming to professional and trust standards, in line with the principles of Healthcare Governance and the Quality Care Commission Standards.

To assess and manage clinical risk within the limits of own scope of practice. To be aware of Health and Safety aspects of work and implement any trust policies, including prompt recording and reporting of incidents using the Trust incident reporting system.

To provide support, teaching and highly specialist advice to other staff within the Physiotherapy team on a planned and spontaneous basis.
