Exciting volunteering opportunities have arisen withinSouth WesternAmbulance NHS Foundation Trust forFleet & Equipment Volunteer Driversto joinour Ambulance Vehicle Preparation teams in Wiltshire and Devon.
We welcome applicants from across the counties but are specifically interested in offering roles based at Trowbridge and Exeter. Volunteers will be expected to be able to arrive at their designated base location to begin their volunteering session.
The Volunteer Driver role will support the Ambulance Vehicle Preparations (AVP) within the Fleet & Equipment functionto move ambulances and other vehicles around the respective county, so they are in the right places for cleaning, maintenance, and re-stocking and support the movement of equipment if desired and needed, across the Fleet & Equipment department.
Main duties of the job
The Logistics Volunteer Role is to assist the AVP/Fleet & Equipment Team in the movement of vehicles.
The aim of AVP is to support A&E Operations by providing clean, stocked ambulances that are ready for our colleagues to deliver patient care.
The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust offers volunteer placements across the organisation with both patient facing, and non-patient facing roles. This role description summarises the Logistics volunteering role and will be supported by local inductions specific to the tasks applicable at that AVP site. The role is non-patient facing (does not deliver clinical care / assessments to patients)
As a Logistics volunteer you are a valued member of our service, supporting our organisation to deliver its mission, vision and uphold our values, willingly and without pay. This role is highly rewarding and offers opportunities to meet new people and learn valuable social and lifesaving skills through the training and ongoing support provided by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust. As the Logistics volunteer will be moving SWAST assets around our counties they will be provided with Basic Life support and First Aid training. The volunteer is not obliged to support an incident if they come across it, but if it is safe and they feel competent they could assist whilst awaiting emergency services to attend
About us
Applicants will have a good all round education; a full driving license held for at least one year (including C1 category), with no more than 6 current penalty points. Following shortlisting, applicants will be invited to attend a role suitability discussion, whereby they will be expected to have some knowledge of the role and South Western Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust.
Candidates willbeoffered an organisational and local workshop inductionand receive training and a driving assessment in order to complete the recruitment process and commence volunteering sessions. They will also need to complete some online Mandatory Training Modules before starting the role.

1.5 To maintain the confidential information of the organisation and of its patients at all times and in accordance with the Trusts information governance guidance and policy.

AVAILABILITY
2.1 Maintain, at minimum, monthly communication with the relevant VPM or dedicated Ambulance Service leader to enable them to maintain an effective scheme and availability planner in order to deliver the Trusts goals.
2.2 Be available to volunteer on a regular basis to support the volunteering task you are carrying out.
ADMINISTRATION
3.1 Ensure all service documentation, where appropriate, is completed accurately, this may include regular equipment check list, action logs or volunteering logs.
3.2 Complete an individual personnel file update annually to ensure contact details are accurate.
3.3 Inform the Volunteering & Community Services Administrator of any changes to personal details where relevant.
TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
4.1 Attend a mandatory initial training course provided by South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust and attend subsequent regular meetings as directed by your Ambulance Service leader.
4.2 Complete mandatory training in accordance with the NHS requirements[KS1].
4.3 Operate trust equipment in accordance with Trust procedures and manufacturers instructions.
SECURITY
5.1 Accept responsibility for the security of SWASFT equipment, uniform, and ID card, all of which belongs to South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust
