South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust

Estates Officer

The closing date is 19 December 2025

Job summary

South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides compassionate, high-quality, and timely emergency and urgent care to communities across the South West -- 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Covering over 10,000 square miles of England, we operate from more than 100 buildings, each playing a vital role in supporting our services. Whilst the team and our buildings are not all directly involved in patient care, these facilities are essential to delivering it. They house our Emergency Operations Centre where we receive our emergency calls, provide space for our staff and volunteers throughout their shifts, support training, fleet and equipment operations, and enable our corporate services to function effectively.

We are now looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Estates Officer to join our dedicated Estates & Facilities Team. This is a key role in ensuring our buildings are safe, well-maintained, and fit for purpose -- helping us continue to deliver the best possible care when it's needed most.

Main duties of the job

As an Estates Officer, you will have day-to-day responsibility for managing the operational aspects of Trust buildings, supporting partnership organisations and internal customers. Your focus will be on ensuring our estate is progressive, patient-focused, safe, efficient, and effective, while responding to internal and external demands.

You will also contribute to the planning and delivery of minor estates schemes and projects, working closely with operational teams and professionals such as contractors, suppliers, planning officers, and specialist consultants.

The successful candidate will have:

  • An electrical background, supported by a recognised qualification.
  • Experience of managing multiple projects (including refurbishments and upgrades to mechanical, electrical, and building fabric) across multiple sites, from concept through to successful delivery.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Sound knowledge of contractor management, health and safety, and project management.
  • Excellent communication skills -- confident, empathetic, and able to build productive relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail, good judgment, and a passion for delivering across multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.

About us

At South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) we have a culture where everyone is valued for being themselves. Our aim is to work together to promote the most inclusive environment possible, which attracts people from the widest range of backgrounds and experiences to enrich the work that we do together, for the benefit of all of our employees, our patients and the communities we serve. We offer flexible working opportunities, inclusive policies and a range of feedback mechanisms to support individuals and to enable a positive, welcoming environment where our people and their careers can thrive in.

We employ over 5,000 employees mainly clinical, operational and emergency response staff as well as supporting roles. We also employ Doctors and volunteers which include community first responders and fire co-responders.

We take all the steps needed to provide the most compassionate patient care possible whilst also providing an enjoyable and safe place to work. We actively promote a positive set of behaviours as being key to our performance both individually and collectively. Our recruitment, selection and screening processes are designed to uphold these standards and we invite all our candidates to actively share with us through these processes how they will bring these behaviours to life.
