The closing date is 12 April 2026

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, flexible, and well-motivated Team Secretary to join the Health-Based Place of Safety (HBPoS) Teams and the wider Crisis Service across Bodmin Hospital and Longreach House. The HBPoS Team Secretary plays a vital role in supporting the safe, efficient, and confidential operation of the county's Health-Based Places of Safety, delivered across two bases within the Adult Crisis Mental Health Service.

Cornwall recognises our crisis service provision as a pivotal part of the acute care pathway for people with acute mental health difficulties and is investing substantially in them to improve care. Your experience and enthusiasm could be just what we need to expand our teams.

This job is currently only open to people who already work for the NHS in Cornwall or the Isles of Scilly. We are committed to supporting our dedicated staff, so only current employees of the following organisations can apply:

  • Cornwall Foundation Trust
  • Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust
  • Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board

If you do not currently work for one of these NHS organisations, your application will not be considered at this time.

Main duties of the job

The HBPoS Team Secretary provides high-quality administrative support across both Health-Based Place of Safety (HBPoS) service bases and the wider Crisis Service, ensuring efficient service delivery within the crisis pathway. The role includes managing correspondence and telephone enquiries, coordinating essential clinical documentation such as Section 136 and admission/discharge paperwork, and maintaining accurate electronic and paper records in line with Trust policies and statutory requirements.

You will support Team Managers and Operational Leads by organising meetings, producing accurate minutes, maintaining effective filing systems, and completing timely data entry on systems such as RiO. The post holder will also contribute to statutory and performance reporting and prepare information for audits, meetings, and service monitoring.

As a first point of contact, you will triage enquiries professionally and sensitively, liaising with multidisciplinary teams, inpatient and community services, CAMHS, and emergency service partners including police and ambulance services to support patient flow. Daily duties include answering calls, typing letters, scanning and uploading documents, ordering supplies, managing HealthRoster tasks, and providing general administrative support. The role requires flexibility to work across Bodmin and Redruth, support training and service events, and maintain confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection standards.

About us

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 4,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increases the numbers of people who use our services.
