Occupational Therapist

The closing date is 07 April 2026

Job summary

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Community Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway, working with individuals with complex needs who are involved in the Criminal Justice System within Cornwall, Isles of Scilly and Plymouth. This is a specialist role offering the opportunity to use occupational therapeutic tools to assess occupational needs, support engagement, emotional regulation, meaningful activity, and positive life change within a trauma-informed and psychologically informed service. We are seeking a registered Occupational Therapist with HCPC.

The OPD Pathway is a jointly commissioned service between NHS England and the Ministry of Justice. We work alongside Probation Services with a team of both NHS and Probation employees. In Cornwall and Plymouth, we have three strands to our OPD Pathway being our CORE provision, Voyage Intensive Intervention and Risk Management Service (IIRMS), and our Psychologically Informed Planned Environment (PIPE) Approved Premises (Probation hostel). This role is based within the community CORE and Voyage IIRMS provisions providing support into the PIPE Approved Premises and standard Approved Premises.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be passionate about working with underrepresented populations especially those who have offended. The post holder will work with high-risk individuals with complex needs presenting with personality difficulties as part of their offending profile reintegrating them into the community from custody. This transitional period is vital in the rehabilitation process.

A main responsibility of the role is to continue the development and oversight of our regular Social Hubs in the community. A key aspect of this will be embedding service user involvement in these. This role offers leadership responsibility in supervising our Support Workers and other members of the team.

As part of a growing network of Occupational Therapists in the Trust you will have regular supervision with the Trust Lead Occupational Therapist and opportunity to link with Occupational Therapists across the Trust. You will be invited to join the OT monthly best practice meeting where continual professional development topics are discussed, and guest speakers are invited to share exciting developments and opportunities both within and outside of the Trust. There is also the opportunity to join the National OPD Occupational Therapists group where you can receive supervision, share best practice and meet annually for support from a network of Occupational Therapists.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 13 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increase the numbers of people who use out services.
