Team lead

The closing date is 02 April 2026

Job summary

The Team Lead for the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at Newquay Community Hospital plays a key leadership role in ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate urgent care to the local community and its visitors. This role provides both clinical leadership and operational oversight, supporting a high-performing team in a busy and dynamic environment.

The Team Lead is responsible for coordinating daily activity within the MIU, ensuring appropriate staffing levels, skill mix, and smooth patient flow. Working closely with the Modern Matron and wider leadership teams, the role helps maintain high standards of clinical governance, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.

A core aspect of the position includes supporting staff development--providing supervision, coaching, and opportunities for learning. The Team Lead promotes a positive, supportive culture and encourages continuous improvement, reflective practice, and adherence to professional and Trust standards.

The role also involves active participation in audits, incident reviews, and quality improvement work, ensuring that learning is shared and embedded across the service. Acts as an escalation point for clinical queries, operational challenges, and patient concerns, helping to ensure a responsive and patient-centred service.

Overall, the MIU Team Lead contributes significantly to the safe running of the unit, the wellbeing of the workforce, and the high-quality care that patients consistently receive.

To lead and develop the clinical team. To ensure the delivery of high-quality evidence-based patient care within the guidelines of Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures. To promote effective communication with all members of the multi-disciplinary and inter-agency team including medical staff, allied health care professionals, patients, and carers. To ensure effective management of units resources including budgets. To support and deputise for the Modern Matron. To work flexibly with peers and managers in the Mid Locality and across the extended county prioritising resources as required.

About us

We're an NHS community and mental health provider Trust based in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. We deliver community and hospital-based care to improve people's physical and mental health. We also provide specialist support to people with dementia or a learning disability.

We are a people organisation and people matter to us. As part of the team, you'll help support the health and wellbeing of the people who live and visit this beautiful part of the UK.

Over 5,000 people make up the Trust. This includes doctors, nurses, therapists, plus admin and support staff.

We work in people's homes, in community clinics and bases. Some staff work from one of our 10 community hospitals. Our aspiration is to have great people, provide great care, be a great place to work and a great partner.

Approximately 568,000 people live here. A third of people who live in Cornwall are supported by acute hospital services in Devon. As a result, we also work closely with our partners in Devon. In the summer, and during other holidays lots of people choose to visit the area. This increase the numbers of people who use out services.
