Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

CAMHS Systemic CYP- IAPT Trainee

The closing date is 21 September 2025

Job summary

We are seeking a committed practitioner who wishes to further their studies by training with South West CYP IAPT in Systemic Therapy. We are offering one funded place on the Systemic Practitioner CYP-IAPT course.

The successful candidate will work within community CAMHS, delivering evidence-based systemic interventions for children and adolescents experiencing depression, self-harm, and/or conduct disorder. Training is fully funded, and on successful completion we anticipate offering a substantive contract within community CAMHS.

The post is likely to be based in West Cornwall for most of the training, but may involve travel between clinics. Future employment base will depend on service need and personal circumstances, and may include Redruth and/or Penzance.

The course runs for one year, January to December, funded by Health Education England. You will study at the University of Exeter two days per week and work in a children's mental health service for 2-3 days per week.

We welcome applicants from a range of professional backgrounds who have CAMHS experience and relevant competencies in children's mental health in line with the CYP-IAPT Knowledge and Skills Framework.https://youtu.be/AAw8fv32fP8

Main duties of the job

INTERVIEW 30th September EXPECTED START DATE is 5th January 2026 and candidates will need to register for the course by December 2025.

This is a training role within the Child and Young Persons Improving Access to Psychological Therapies Programme (CYP-IAPT). The post-holders will work within Cornwall CAMHS service at Cornwall Partnership Trust, providing systemic interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for these roles at the University of Exeter.

Systemic therapy explores relationships and involves working with family members and sub-systems to safely explore difficult emotions and thoughts and emotions, to understand each other's experiences and perspectives. The training and supervisory experience will equip the learners to deliver evidence based systemic interventions in either eating disorders or community CAMHS.

Learners will gain a critical and reflective understanding of the CYP IAPT model of service change, outcome monitoring, and fundamentals of systemic approaches working with children and families.

This clinical practise will complement and enhance the knowledge gained from the university as you will be given the opportunity to learn a range of systemic techniques and interventions under the supervision of highly specialised family and systemic practitioners.

The post- holder would be expected to attend and fulfil all the requirements of the training element of the post and continue to work within the CAMHS service on qualification.
